Research
Pressure-cooking is a cooking methodology that requires less cooking time and therefore preserves more vitamins in the food. This results in a tastier and healthier meal.
However, most low pressure cookers are perceived as dangerous, complex to use and only focused on cooking low pressure. Young amateur cooks are often looking for a cookware set that fulfills their basic cooking needs. Therefore pressure-cooking is often avoided and users miss out on the benefits of a more healthy way of cooking.
How can we design a safe cooking experience with a low pressure cooker?
The solution
The ‘Joy’ cookware pot addresses the needs of usability, safety and versatility and makes healthy cooking approachable and appealing for younger users.
The lid can be locked in 2 positions for low pressure cooking and conventional cooking. In the low pressure cooking mode, the strainer holes are hidden, the lid is sealed and steam is able to build up to 6 PSI pressure. This results in a faster and healthier cooking process and is enriching flavors. In the conventional cooking mode, the straining holes are exposed on the spout so that steam can escape and Joy can be used for boiling food.
Simple closing mechanism combined with a pressure release valve
Friendly looking design with clear status indication
Intuitive closure
Users can click one side of the lid into the pot and fix the other side by pressing the handle down. The lid can be removed by unlocking the mechanism through the sliding button.
Clear interface
The visual icons on top of the lid shows if the product is in low-pressure or conventional cooking mode.
Safe in use
The safety valve will automatically release steam when the pressure level inside the pot is higher than 6 PSI. Users can see the food status through the glass surface.
Spout with strainer
Users can comfortably pour out water through the spout with strainer because the lid is fixed to the pot.
Stackable design
The appealing design with seamless lid allows users to stack other pots on top.
